TEACHING

I view each student as capable and creative, with a unique set of knowledge and skills which can contribute to the classroom. I enjoy interacting with students, and I learn from them. I take a constructivist approach to teaching, striving to facilitate active learning and encouraging life-long learning. I endeavor to create an interactive, collaborative learning environment which promotes critical-thinking, independent thinking, and teamwork. I believe that these are essential aspects to learning, as they support the application of knowledge and skills to real world situations.

I have had the opportunity to teach a wide range of subjects, to a variety of students. I consistently aim to apply course material to practical circumstances to promote life-long learning and critical thinking. My goals include students taking the material further than assignments and exams. I encourage students to think beyond just what we are learning, but why we are learning it. As with my research work, I focus my teaching on the application of theory and course lessons, to practice and real-world situations.
